The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the winners of the biennial Betty Frost Jenkins Young Artist Concerto Competition held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Michelsen Hall of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Fine Arts and Communication. Five talented high school musicians from Central Wisconsin performed a memorized movement from a concerto of his/her choice. This year’s winner is Lucas Chan of Stevens Point, who performed the first movement from Edouard Lalo’s “Symphonie Espagnol.” First runner-up is Natalie Van Tiem, a cellist from Stevens Point and second runner up is Erin Olson of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids who performed a horn concerto. The purpose of the competition is to provide a high-quality performance experience for the finest young performers from Central Wisconsin, and to assist them in pursuing advanced study. The competition has been renamed in honor of long time board member, musician, volunteer and supporter, Betty Frost Jenkins, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday and established a fund to award a cash prize/scholarship to the winner.
